Austin, Texas – Senator Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) issued the following statement on the Senate’s passage of CSHB 2, delivering historic funding for Texas public education.

“Today, the Legislature passed House Bill 2—the most transformational education reform in Texas history.  HB 2 is not a blank check. It’s a bold, conservative blueprint that directs funding where it matters most: into classrooms, into proven programs, and into the hands of great teachers.

For the first time, Texas will fund students at over $17,000 each in the state budget—targeted to strengthen core instruction, improve student outcomes, and support every one of our 1,200 school districts.

Every Texas teacher in their third year and beyond will now receive a permanent raise through the new Teacher Compensation Allotment. This isn’t a bonus or one-time stipend—it’s a lasting investment that changes how Texas values our educators.  This bill is proof that we’re not just thanking teachers—we’re backing them with real, sustained funding.

We included funds for the men and women who keep our schools running– the bus drivers, the counselors, the nurses and the librarians.  And also increased flexibility for districts to spend funds where they need them most.

Texas has been blessed, and the world is watching what we do next. But if we want to remain a global leader in energy, agriculture, space, and technology, we must lead in the classrooms that will power those industries tomorrow.

Because today’s students will be tomorrow’s CEOs, scientists, job creators– and preparing the next generation is the most important work that we have.  House Bill 2 lays the foundation for a strong future that ensures the Texas miracle remains a reality for generations to come.”

House Bill 2 now moves to the Texas House for final approval.
