Texas Takes the Lead on Pandemic Preparedness
The covid pandemic showed us one thing very clearly – we cannot rely on outside “experts” to provide guidance and understanding on the science of our policy decisions.
Far too many mistakes were made, and having our own ability to understand what’s really happening is key to making the right decisions for Texans.
I was proud to author Senate Bill 1780 with Representatives Dustin Burrows, Greg Bonnen, and Armando Walle to create the Texas Epidemic Public Health Institute – better known as the Texas CDC – in our Texas Medical Center in Houston.
TEPHI will begin by guiding us safely through the final phases of COVID-19 and then transition to better prepare Texas for future pandemics.
TEPHI will plan and build an infrastructure to recruit, train, and ready for deployment 3,500 individuals throughout the state, creating a public health reserve force for Texas to ensure we give our citizens the best insight they can get.
