My Voting Philosophy

Core conservative principals are the key to maintain an economic and social infrastructure so that Texas families and businesses continue to prosper. I enjoy the opportunity to serve in the Legislature and promote these principals.

Fiscal Responsibility

Ensure that the Texas budget is balanced with no new taxes. In 2009 Texas reduced government spending for the first time since World War II. In 2011 Texas reduced overall government spending again.

Since 2009 Texas has produced over 40% of the jobs for the entire nation. Texas's limited government and predictable regulatory environment allow private businesses to depend on a government that encourages job creation. Texas has established incentive funds to encourage employers to relocate, creating thousands of jobs.

Texas's small businesses are the backbone of economic success so the government retains a limited role so our small businesses can get to work. Texas economy relies on the government to rein in spending, reduce taxes on businesses, provide a educated workforce, and maintain a reasonable regulatory climate to entice even more job creation in Texas.

Make Education a Top Priority

The first step in creating a sustainable successful economy is to invest in education. Texas will continue to create a better learning atmosphere for Texas children and teachers. Local communities should have the control so that decisions made regarding our children's education stay close to home. All unfunded state or federal mandates should end so more of the money given to our schools remains in their control.

Our children are 100% of our future and every Texan has the right to a world-class education.

Protect Private Property Rights

Brandon comes from a family of Texas farmers and ranchers. The best stewards of the land are the ones who care for it. In the 82nd session the House passed legislation to further limit the use of eminent domain to increase individual’s right to protect his or her land from government intrusion. Brandon sponsored legislation to improve private property rights and encourage development in Texas’ fastest growing counties.

Protect our Texas Borders

Washington has a constitutional duty to secure international borders. The protection of our border is the government’s first responsibility, and the federal government continues to fail. Because of that our state and local officials are left to handle this task. Texas has provided border agents with hundreds of millions of dollars in additional funding, additional manpower, and resources to reduce criminal activity on the border. This is a significant fiscal cost to the state, but Texas must find a solution to secure the border and give the local law enforcement the authority to enforce all laws to stop gangs from spreading violence and protect our system of legal immigration.

The federal government needs to step up their efforts in defending our country’s borders. However, until they do, Texas will continue to take the lead among the border states’ in protecting our citizens. The hard work and dedication of law enforcement officials at every level across the state is evident and Texas will continue to support these efforts.

Support an Unborn Child’s Right to Life

Brandon has faithfully supported both Texas Right to Life and his districts local Montgomery County Right to Life Chapter. He will continue to support legislation that supports any unborn child’s right to life and recognizes the sanctity of life.

Tort Reform

Lawsuits are a emotional and financial drain on many Texans. Texans should not have to endure this toll for merit less claims. Texas needs a civil justice system that discourages any kind of frivolous lawsuits and a litigation system that allows plaintiffs to be fairly compensated and defendants to get a fair day in court. Brandon authored a ‘loser pay’ initiative, which successfully implemented the most comprehensive tort reform legislation since 2003 to end frivolous lawsuits. This will protect Texas economic backbone, small businesses, and continue to enable Texas’s economy to succeed. This effort will also significantly contribute to creating more jobs for Texans.

Protect our Natural Resources

Protecting Texas’s bountiful natural resources and providing a long-term viable water supply is essential for Texas to continue to flourish. As a ranking member of the House Committee on Natural Resources and a previous Board of Director for the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District, Brandon has worked diligently to ensure Texans have viable water source. A long term viable water source is also the single most important factor when relocating. Whether a business or residence water is the key factor is a sustainable economy. He carried legislation to ensure the safety of groundwater resources and has worked to find solutions to fund the state-wide water plan to implement a fifty year sustainable water plan for all Texans.
